Cedar is a natural wood product that is naturally resistant to rot and insect damage not found in spruce wood. It is resistant not immune. It will break down and suffer termite and carpenter ant damage in time but it will last longer than either spruce or fir but it won't last as long, necessarily, than pressure treated wood. But you do not want to use pressure treated products in your gardens. Maybe PT products don't use straight up arsenic any longer to preserve wood; or creosote as in rail ties, but it still uses some chemical product to extend the life of wood that under normal circumstances would rot away. It is fine for use in decking and arbor posts and components and other structures that don't have direct contact with the soil, but absolutely NOT garden boxes where you plant those scrumptious tomatoes, cukes, radishes and beets, etc. Therefore, outside of using stone, cedar is the next best thing. It is not cheap, but still better. It may be simply a personal preference or aesthetics - cedar is very beautiful. Whatever it is for you, these are just some of the benefits of buying cedar products.
The GB series of raised garden boxes come standard in 8, 10 and 12 foot lengths but custom sizes can be made to order. Also standard is a hoop system that enables you to extend the growing season. When the danger of frost is over in the spring the hoops can simply be removed by loosening a set screw and stored away. The innovative design and beauty of these raised bed systems is in how the hoop system integrates with the garden box to form a useful and aesthetically pleasing unit.
The WGB series of raised bed garden boxes are truly an innovative in garden box design. The creative design of the WGB series garden boxes are specifically suited for ease of accessibility. The box is designed with wheelchair specifications, though it is versatile enough to be used comfortably for anyone. The boxes are made with 1 1/2" western red cedar, fir or spruce lumber with a large garden work space above a smaller hollow base. This means the box can be placed on a sturdy deck without worry of excessive weight. The bottom of the garden work space slopes towards the middle where a drainage hole allows for excess water to drain out beneath it. Size options with the WGB series garden boxes are 6, 7 and 8' garden work space by 4' wide. The WGBS Other options give the user ample storage space in the base unit to store essential gardening tools.
